Today is the day! "Missed Connection" is yours!!

The song is officially out on all streaming services as the third and final single leading up to my debut EP, Splish Splash, which arrives June 21. It's accompanied by a music video that was filmed over the past year with the help of Tori Orman, Lauren Krohn, and Julia Coakley. The video portrays a sun-soaked meet-cute fantasy that lives somewhere between the reality of city life and the fantasy of an ideal island getaway.

I started writing "Missed Connection" a couple years ago as an exercise — an effort to step outside of my usual writing habits, which was usually harmonically complex songs. I challenged myself to start writing a song using only three chords. I knew I wanted something that would be full of joy and fun to sing. I had such a clear idea of the vibe I wanted, and I guess I was in the right headspace, that the melody came out almost fully formed.

Over the next couple years, I finished writing the song and started recording it. I had some amazing help along the way. I felt the song needed some Latin percussion, so one of the first things I recorded for "Missed Connection" was the timbales, played by Franco Giacomarra. I then recorded bass, congas, guitars, and piano. For the electric guitar parts, I was inspired by African pop music styles, specifically soukous. I wanted the song to be bigger, brighter, and fuller, so I enlisted some more help: Neil Carson contributed saxophones, and Airin Virgilio, Hanna Azcui, James Fletcher, and Lauren Krohn sung backing vocals.

I'm pretty happy with how the song and video turned out. I had a blast putting it all together, and I think (I hope) that comes through! I hope this one ties you over for the next month until Splish Splash is released.
